I really liked how the author showed us at the beginning of the book all of the WANTED letters and stuff sent to people to try to capture Gully Foyle. It really shows like how many planets and living creatures there were out there at that time. I am also curious as to where the "baby" adult, Sigurd came from. Like I dont think he was ever mentioned anywhere else in the story but it is neat because he was the same powers as Robin except he can listen and send out and she can only send out. This chapter really did give me a good idea of what horrifying things were going to happen throughout the end of the story.-Marissa Kosko-Blyler

I agree Marissa, i liked the wanted ads too. I showed how much they really want to capture him, and how far they were willing to go to do it. Sigurd is I think mentioned once in the book before for his powers of hearing, and sending thought powers. I am confused on why they said he is seventy, when he is in baby form, how does that happen? I feel bad for all those living dead people, they were tricked into a horrible life, eventhough it isnt much of a life without any senses. I think that is why they were called the living dead on Mars. -Kathryn Yacobucci

Yeah, I'd say having all your senses cut off is actually worse than being dead. You're basically a vegetable. I would go insane to not know where I am or what's going on. They say when you lose one of your senses, another is heightened. But what benefit could there possibly be to lose every single one of your senses? -Casey Pipetti

Usually when you lose your senses, they can come back if you keep working at it. They dont have to be gone forever because they can come back. You dont really get anything out of losing your senses because you have a lot of senses. - [lauryn colmer]

I think being dead would be better and how could you work on having your senses back if you dont know how to do it? i dont get it. -kayla knisley

The beginning is very unique how it draws its readers attention. It is a cool way of showing transmittions between the different offices like faxes or emails. *Kayle Giarth*

Pg 199 "No. NANNIE! NAN-N-I-E!" This is from the ancient child. He is very facinating to me because even though he is 71 he acts like a four year old. I believ that the ancient child is Mentally Challanged. The way he acts is very coomon to the people with problems in our society. *Kayle Giarth*

Pg. 200 "He decelerated, put Sigurd Magsman down, and switched on the retinal light in his eyes, trying to pierce the wombgloom." This made me think about the rebirthing that Mr. Trimmer had brought up. Also how in this chapter Gully may get reborn again. I think he did because when he found out that the person he has been hunting is Olivia, the one he loves, he is broken and then doesnt hurt her. When he is reborn he gave up his hatred, angry and revenge. -Kathryn Yacobucci

I agree with Kathryn, i believe Gully realized that he didn't want to be a monster like Olivia. He was reborn into a better man.-Taylor Vladic

i agree too. i think he is learning and wants to be a better person. - Jess Koch

Pg. 202- "Yes, please don't make me go inside her anymore. It's twisty and it hurts. I don't like her." -Why would Gully try and get info out of a 7 year old boy? I think it is weird though that he can telepath when he is only so young. - Ashlee Carson

i agree too. it is weird that he is doing that. i don't get why. - Damian Lascoli

Response: Well Carson, i think it said that it was like a lot older or something and the baby seems kinda famous so im betting hes well known and been around a lot longer and has great power with his telepathy. He needs this information because he knows that he cannot talk to Lindsey because shes in the cucoon thing i guess. Magsman knows that shes miserable and can tell when reading her mind and all her thoughts and memories. -Mindy Hayton

Pg. 204 "She says Olivia. Oliva Presteign. Olivia Presteign. Olivia Presteign." This is where Gully finds out that the new love of his life more or less ruined his life. He has spent all of his time and thought hunting down who ruined his life so that he could kill him and Gully finds out that his own crush did it. Even though she seems so inoccent in the earlier part of the book. It is very confusing. *Kayle Giarth*

Page 204- 'The living dead," he muttered. And then: 'I've joined them.' I think this quote is interesting because earlier in the novel Jiz explained that Gully is a hallow man with no feeling inside him. But Gully protested that he only had hate and vengence left in him. Now, sense knows the truth about Vorga, He admits he is the living dead and whatever shread of evil in him just disappeared. By knowing that his beloved Olivia gave the instructions to murder all those pleople and leave himself to die. That kind of heartache made him finally wake up and realize how dead he really was inside. -Heather Gibson

The cottage was a nursery. Three pleasant nannies sat motionless in rocking chairs, knitting poised in their frozen hands. The blur that was foyle came up behind them and quietly stung them with amplues. I thought it was nice how they made a cottage into a nursery for kids but i didnt understand why they did so and how they sat in a rocking chair motionless. - [lauryn colmer]

Pg. 199- "He looked at the ancient, ancient child; the wizened, shriveled boy who was seated on the florr playing with electronic trains." So, is it a little boy who looks like an old man? Or is he really a seventy-year-old child who never aged? Will he have the appearance of a child for the rest of his life until he dies, or is he immortal? -Casey Pipetti

RE: Yeah, honestly, I couldn't tell you either. To me, he must be like a seventy year old child who never aged. Mentally or physically. He talks like a little kid, but he holds a lot of knowledge that most people can't have. Maybe he doesn't even know that he even really has powers. - Kaylee Goldsworthy =]

i think that the aging process in the future is either far diffrent from now or the live signifintly longer-dustin gardner

I agree with you Casey (aka Karen haha), i think hes a little boy who is an old man that is immortal but he ages really slowly or he is like the Cullens in Twilight and hes frozen in his child age but his mind keeps advancing and growing older and wiser. Or he could be like Benjamin Button where when he was born he was born old but now as an serior citzen he is young but the aging process is a lot slower. -- Jameson Holsinger :)

RE: casey i found this interesting too. it is almost as though in the future the technology is available to prevent aging. i was under the interpretation that because the boy was the only telepath on his planet he uunderwent some surgery or takes some medicine that prevents him from aging so that he will live forever. ~nicole dengler

Page 197-198. "It was a killing offense to endanger or destroy any plant vital to the transformation of Mars' carbon dioxide atmosphere into an oxygen atmosphere. Even blades of grass were sacred... The man who wandered of a path onto a lawn would be killed without mercy. The woman who picked a flower would be killed without mercy." This seems a little far fetched. I really want to know what they do if someone builds a new building. They can't dig up a grassy lot. They can't even put a stake into the ground. Why are they talking about sidewalks anyway if people jaunt from place to place? -Bryant Sell

I like what you are stating right out of the book here Bryant because it really gives us another understanding as to the world they lived in and what it compares to now. May even be there to kind of scare some of us as to what the world may become considering the book is based on the future. -Marissa Kosko-Blyler

I agree with you Bryant this book is set in like the 25th century if i rember right. This far into the future they probably dont even touch the sidewalks but you never know because you dont know what the world would be like this far ahead. Dylan

Pg.199 Sigurd acts like he dosn't know Foyle but I think they do know each other. You're a bad man with a bad face. Is he talking about his tiger face when he shows emotions. Why does Foyle want answers from Sigurd?.- Katelyn Broughton

Olivia ordered vorga to pass him. i didnt really see how that was possible at first. but after i figured out it was because of her wanting revenge on all people, then it made sense. even though its still insane how she killed 600 people. - Haley Kline

Responce: yeah that is pretty screwed up but im still wondering if she wanted revenge on everyone why didnt she just pick him up and sucttle him with everyone else and keep the possability of him getting picked up by someone else.

page 200 It says how a sect of White Russian people believe all sencory parts of the body only lead to sin and have a very expensive surgerory to have them ALL removed. This shows me just how little faith that they have in themselves for anykind of restraint what so ever. These times of the future are to have everything handed to you or rediculously simple.-John Benton

Pg. 204: "She says Olivia. Olivia Presteign. Olivia Presteign. Olivia Presteign." So the answer to extreme vengeance and hatred in Gully's case is total heartbreak. This is pretty much where Gully's ironically undying quest for vengeance....dies, by finding out the woman he loved so much was the one who gave the order to let him rot.-Tim Galbraith

I agree with Timmy. She was insane and i dont think she really loved him though.-ALEX GEESEY

Yeah i also agree. If she did love him then she wouldn't have ordered it. I wonder if she didn't order it though if something would have happened to her.- Ashlee Carson

at put Olivia up to letting the ship pass Gully die. She didn't have a care for anyone in the positive sense pretty much. - Joel Redfoot

Gully went through alot of trouble to speak to the captain of Vorga and when he finally meats her, he finds out that she didn't give the order to abandon him. Olivia presteign gave the order. Gully isnt sure how to react to this because he loved her.- ALEX GEESEY

I agree with Alex on this. If you love someone and they cant be with you, and you finally have found someone you truely love you dont know how your going to react. - [lauryn colmer]

Response: I can agree with Gully and the way his attitude completely changes once he finds out that Olivia was the one who made the order to leave him go. If I loved someone the way he does, I could and would make the adjustments to completely change the way I felt about being left to die. This may be drastic, but I believe it would be the right thing. He is just upset because the woman he loves with a passion is the one who left him to rot alone. -Cullen Schimminger

RE: I agree with timmy in the sense that once Gully found out that his "love" was the one that gavethe orders to let him rot he abondoned his mission of vengence. however, I can't seem to grasp how Gully can possibly be so much in love with Olivia Presteign. It appears as though they don't have a history together and they haven't known each other very long so i don't understand why foyle thinks he is so much in love with her. ~nicole dengler
The sheer idea of how Gully can be carrying around a toddler with him, but the young one is 70 years old is very bizarre, and this is something that I like with the book. This just adds more zest to the story and it's science fiction background. Details such as this are the reasons why I found this book to be so enjoyable. -Cullen Schimminger

It is very odd that Gully is carrying around a toddler with him who is 70 years old. Things like this is what made it easy to read because i wanted to keep reading about weird stuff like this. - Tyler Slippy

pg 200. "having entered the skoptsy Colony and paid a fortune for the pirvilege, the initiates submitted joyously to an operation that severed the sensory nervous system, and lived out their days without sight, sound, speech, smell, taste, or touch." I found this interesting because if a person were to lose all of their sensory organs there really would be no point in living. without all of these feelings the body is basically usual and the person would not be able to experience any parts of life at all. ~nicole dengler

Response: I agree with Nicole that this is somewhat interesting, but i also found it a little repulsive. What I dont understand is why don't they just kill the person because wouldnt that be better than living without the normal experiences and feelings of life.-Chanelle Meadows

Pg. 203: "The child was shrieking and shaking; Foyle was shouting. The echoes thundered. As Foyle reached for the child in a rage, his eyes were blinded by brilliant light. The entire catacomb was illuminated by the Burning Man." Folye's actions are once again creating for the Burning Man to show up and have to point out to Gully. Gully isn't caring for the sake of other's but only for himself. - Joel Redfoot

Yep that is how Gully is. He doesn't care about anybody but himself. It doesn't seem like he gets what exactly he has to do if people have to point out things for him.-Ashlee Carson

Pg. 199. "Hello, Sigurd,"Foyle said. The child began to cry. "Crybaby! What are you afraid of? I'm going to hurt you." "Your a bad man with a bad face." "I'm your friend, Sigurd." "No, you're not. You want ne to do b-bad things." I no that the child can tell what hes thinking but i don't understand why he won't give him a chance first. It's like the quote "Don't judge a book by it's cover until you know whats inside." -- Jameson Holsinger :)

Response- Why does he need to give Gully a chance whenever Sigurd knows what he's going to make him do because he is a telepath. Therefore he already knows whats inside this so called book.-SKIPPY

I think he doesnt understand what is going on. I dont think he trusts people very easy. It takes him awhile. - Jess Koch

page 203: "She's twisty and sicky." I never thought about this aspect of telepathy. I never thought that in order for someone's mind to be read, the telepath must go almost literally in that person's head and search for the answer they are seeking. the telepath is portrayed as a young boy who lives in a nursery and not very filled in on the twisted world around him. I can understand why the ancient child telepath would rather go home and see his nanny than go inside the twisted mind of the skoptsy, Joyce. -Janelle Meadows

Pg. 200 "Sonny, I'm Gully Foyle, Solar Enemy Number One. I;m just a step aeay from the finish of a year-long hunt . . . I'm risking my neck because i need you to settke accounts with a son of a bitch who-Sonny, I'm Gully Foyle. There isn't anything i wouldn't dare." Foyle is yelling this to the Magsman as a threat to make him read Lindsey's mind once she's found. He says this as if he even knows hes infamous and after his long explanation he quits and shows how full of himself he feels by saying, I am Gully Foyle and theres nothing i wouldnt dare. Sounding like he thinks hes the roughest guy out there even though he pretty much is. -Mindy Hayton

I agree Mindy. Gully has the sense of invincibility and that he is unstoppable. I dont blame him for saying this though, look at all of the things he has accomplished. He survived in the black of space with hardly any food, very little oxygen and no one to confort him, he can space jaunt, he escaped the prison, he basically was unstoppable, and as a result, he is getting cocky and letting it go to his head. This can't last for long, this is just a preceding for something bad to happen to him. (He jynxed himself.) -Janelle Meadows

I agree with Mindy 100%. he is a crazy man and has no fear about anything.

Pg.201 "This was his enemy, the instigator of his death and the deaths of the six hundred from Callisto. This was the enemy for whom he had planned vengeance and hunted for months." Whenever i first read this i could feel what Gully was think the anger that he had towards Lindsey Joyce. I know how he wants to torture her so bad, but she can't feel anything due to her being a Skoptsy. So i don't he would accomplish anything by torturing her even if she was the cause if all.-SKIPPY

Pg.199 "Foyle grabbed the seventy-year-old child and shook it." I dont fully understand why he is a seventy year old child is it because he is on mars showing a new life on a planet that started off with people being shot for being on the grass or the fact he could be like benjimen button and ages backwards.-SKIPPY

Pg. 200 "There isnt anything I wouldn't dare." This is when Foyle is explaining to the Sigurd about how he needs him to get information. He told him that there isn't anything he wouldn't do to get answers about vorga. -victor lemus.

Pg. 204 "Olivia, No, Not. Never, Olivia. I..." Why is Gully Foyle so surprised at this i know that he is in love with her but he knows that she hates him and dosen't really care for him. -victor lemus.

Pg. 208 "I love you, Olivia." "I love you, Gully, my enemy." Why does she say that she hates him then the next sentence say she loves him. But then again she calls him her enemy. That does not make any sense, how could you love someone and hate them at the same time. -victor lemus.

I interpreted it as when we find out she's the one who ordered not to help Gully, then he is therefore her "enemy". However, she still loves him. -Taylor Cashdollar.

I found the beginning of this chapter very interesting. It was a good way to get my attention and made me want to see why everything was in capital letters. - Tyler Slippy
